Okay, okay… I really am a fan of Max Lucado. What can I say? He’s a prolific writer. He’s one of those authors I look up to. I think he tops my list.

And God used his ministry and talent to touch my life in many ways. And just over the weekend, I finished reading another of his books. It’s a good read. Really. Before reading the book I had my devotions on David’s life. So it was like an added insight. Really cool.

I already posted “What’s with the names?!” entry. But I remembered a few more while I was walking home this morning. This brought back lotsa memories. Hmm…

continued….

1. Gria - My best bud Aby, while I was in COP Music College, called me Gria. She got it from the way I signed my name when we check each other’s work in class. I used to put a G-clef before Ria and it got stuck in her mind. I miss her.

2. Rei - That’s the short version of Rhea, me thinks. Vince used this to call me. I miss him too.

3. Boy - When i was Lyceum I had a hair cut, and it was really short. Some boys in our College choir called me “boy” because I looked like a boy (according to them…) James and Vincent used this.

4. Mahal - My close friend Kathy used this term of endearment for me. She’s the sweetest. We were sort of inseparable when she was still in college.

5. Dude - a general term in the office and with my bestfriend denise

6. Pre/ Pare - I think this started in high school… but we also used this a lot at work… I remember hearing this from Candy, Denise, Jed

7. Mommy Iya - We made up this “family” back in HS. I think I was a sophomore then… Jackie called me mommy. But she didn’t have a daddy. Bwahaha. Camille was her cousin. I forget the rest of the family members.

8. Bords - Got this from my brother Angel. It became popular because of the spoof of “300″. I called my brothers bords, they called me bords, Denise and I called each other bords.

9. Divs - My HS classmate Joy made this up. She derived this from “Divina”. But I don’t remember her calling me this in public that much. This is just how she’d usually address me in her letters.

10. Jeg - I know… I know… this is my brother’s name. But his classmates and buddies in COP called me this because according to them I look like my brother. Duh. Like wait ’til you see his twin. I guess they just missed him at that time.

11. Mountain girl - Lou Daryl used this to tease me. We used to live in Antipolo (we still have our house there) and that city is in a mountainous area. Thus the name.

12. Divina-damo-damo - This is the most hilarious name I was called. Actually, the Divina is with a /b/, as in “Dibina”. Bwahaha. My seatmate when I was in grade one bit me in the arm and gave me that name. He’s a big guy… and some sort of a bully… Since he was the biggest in class (vertically and horizontally) some mean kids called him “baboy damo” as in wild boar. I don’t remember the events exactly, but when he bit me, seeing that my eyes were already welling up, he tried to lighten up things by saying that since he’s the baboy damo, then I’m the damo (grass). That’s why he bit me. Well of course, wild boars really don’t eat grass. Do they?

Oh, and the effective way of saying this name is to sound like a Japanese.

Though most of the names I posted here are really not names… I actually don’t know what to call it. A title? Not really. Some are terms of endearment. Others were used to tease me. But each somehow represents what kind of relationship I had with the people who called me by these names.

Actually, Ria is pretty fine with me. I love that name. Not that common. Well, at least here in the Philippines. And I love it when people call me by my name. Especially “Ria”. But I must admit… Divine is also a nice-sounding name. Too bad only a few people call me this. And nobody does at the moment.

Another name I’d like to hear people call me is “Grace”. It’s a pretty name. A very meaningful one. A wonderful reminder.

But for now. Let’s just stick with Ria. Except if you’re Camille or Denise… or my mom and dad… or Angel… Cris, Jeg… Jed…. Michelle…..
